Gravel Road Maintenance
Gravel Road MaintenanceCrush and run gravel is made from tiny pieces of gravel that is mixed with limestone.
This is a useful top layer for gravel driveways because the limestone sticks together when wet, helping the driveway last longer.
Crush and run gravel driveways are affordable and can last for years if they are properly maintained.
Once your grid surface is fully clipped together, then you can begin loading 15-20kg of your 10mm-20mm gravel per grid.
No further compacting is needed to get the surface level or to inset the stones.
Once filled, your driveway surface is now ready to be driven over for years to come! The basics: River rocks are larger than pea gravel, typically 1 inch and larger in diameter.
They're available in a variety of colors, costs and sizes, and are used to create dry creek beds or to direct drainage through a property.
Cost: This type of rock is sold by the pound or by the ton.
How much gravel is in a yard? A cubic yard measures volume where a ton measures weight.
A yard of topsoil usually weighs about 1,800 pounds and a yard of gravel usually weighs about 2,200 pounds.
What depth of gravel do I need? You would usually lay a 10mm aggregate at a depth of 30-40mm, but on a driveway this would need to be at least 50mm.
A 20mm aggregate would need to be at least 40-50mm deep, and at least 50-60mm on driveways.
A larger aggregate will settle and bond together better than smaller ones.
